Tottenham accelerate move to sign Arnaud Kalimuendo

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo from Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais this summer.

According to a report by French outlet L’Equipe, Arnaud Kalimuendo is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a productive striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Stade Rennais centre-forward has emerged as a target for the North London club.

The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners are accelerating their move to sign Kalimuendo, and they are set to open talks to secure his services in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Stade Rennais striker is also a target for Newcastle United, although the Ligue 1 club’s asking price to sell the Frenchman remains unknown.

Arnaud Kalimuendo and his career so far

Arnaud Kalimuendo is one of the latest young prospects to land on his feet after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 club’s stacked squad is often detrimental to the growth of highly-rated prodigies, and the 23-year-old has come leaps and bounds since joining Stade Rennais in August 2022.

A native of Suresnes, the French striker began his youth career with FC Saint-Cloud before joining PSG in 2012. Meanwhile, Kalimuendo enjoyed an excellent 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 22 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 18 times and providing four assists. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has alerted several well-known clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Arnaud Kalimuendo is somewhat perplexing. The North London club broke the bank to sign Dominic Solanke last summer. However, with the English striker blowing hot and cold in his debut season, the Lilywhites want an alternative. In addition, Alejo Veliz will likely depart on another loan spell amid his links with Rosario Central. So, Kalimuendo is a viable target for Tottenham.

As for Newcastle United, Callum Wilson will likely depart from St. James’ Park as a free agent in the summer transfer window. So, the Magpies want a long-term replacement for the Englishman, with Kalimuendo an option worth considering. In addition, the 23-year-old Frenchman can be Alexander Isak’s heir amid the Swede’s links with several European bigwigs.

However, Newcastle United may lose the battle for Kalimuendo’s signature, with Tottenham set to open talks to secure his services. While the Lilywhites do not know Stade Rennais’s asking price, a move to the Premier League may be on the cards for the 23-year-old French striker.
