Leeds United, West Ham United vying for Mario Stroeykens

Leeds United and West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing 20-year-old Belgian midfield prospect Mario Stroeykens from Anderlecht in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by talkSPORT, Mario Stroeykens has garnered a market in the Premier League coming into the summer transfer window. Leeds United and West Ham United are interested in signing the 20-year-old Anderlecht midfield prospect, with the Jupiler Pro League giants demanding around £17 million to part ways with him.

Who is Mario Stroeykens?

Mario Stroeykens is the latest Belgian prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. A native of Zellik, the youngster spent his formative years in Belgium, starting his youth career at Toekomst Relegem before joining Anderlecht in 2012. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, rising through the ranks at the Jupiler Pro League club before breaking into the first-team squad.

The 20-year-old broke into the first-team squad at Anderlecht midway through the 2020/21 season but enjoyed his breakthrough in the 2022/23 season. Stroeykens has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for the Jupiler Pro League outfit while chipping in with 16 goals and 15 assists.

Meanwhile, Stroeykens’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League may be on the cards, with Leeds United and West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Leeds United’s interest in Mario Stroeykens is understandable. The Whites are keen on bolstering their midfield unit in the summer transfer window as they look to sustain the challenge of remaining in the Premier League. So, several candidates, including Valentin Atangana, have emerged on Leeds United’s radar, with Stroeykens also a viable target.

As for West Ham, Carlos Soler has returned to Paris Saint-Germain after an underwhelming loan spell in the 2024/25 season. In addition, Guido Rodriguez may leave the East London club after only one season at the London Stadium. So, several midfielders, including Joao Palhinha, have emerged on West Ham’s radar, with Stroeykens also an option worth considering.

Meanwhile, Anderlecht will demand around £17 million to part ways with the 20-year-old Belgian midfield prospect. Leeds United and West Ham United should have the funds to afford a deal worth £17 million to sign Stroeykens. So, it will be interesting to see if he moves to England in the summer transfer window.
