OGC Nice’s Sofiane Diop undergoes sports hernia surgery

OGC Nice’s Sofiane Diop (25) has undergone surgery on a sports hernia injury and risks missing up to two months of action, according to a report from L’Équipe. 

The Moroccan forward contended with a series of injuries last season and the one prior, however, he got his career back on track in the second half of the campaign. He finished the season having scored six goals and having registered eight assists. 

However, his preparation for next season will be severely disrupted. As per L’Équipe, Diop has undergone surgery on a sports hernia injury. That surgery was undergone with the approval of the club. Not only will he now miss the return to pre-season training, which for Les Aiglons is already underway, but he also risks missing the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, with his recovery time estimated between six to eight weeks. 

Nice will play the first leg of the third round of the Champions League qualifiers on 5th/6th August, with the return leg one week later.
