Tottenham rekindle talks to sign Maxime Esteve

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur have revived their interest in the services of Burnley centre-back Maxime Esteve.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Tottenham Hotspur are all set to make a move for Maxime Esteve. Spurs were keen on securing his services during the winter window, and while a deal couldn’t be finalised back then, the North London club are ready to try again this summer.

Esteve came up the ranks and made a name for himself while playing for Montpellier before joining Burnley at the start of 2024. It was an initial loan deal which was made permanent last summer.

He has only gone from strength to strength since joining the English outfit, and his consistent performances have attracted a lot of interest. Spurs were keen on signing him at the start of 2025 as they wanted to add more depth and quality to their backline.

They knocked on the door of Burnley on the winter transfer window’s deadline day with an offer worth around €24 million. However, it was turned down by Scott Parker’s team, who had their focus solely on securing a promotion to the top flight.

Spurs reignite their pursuit of Esteve

They have secured a return to the Premier League, and Esteve played a key role in that achievement, featuring in all their league games. While Spurs couldn’t land him in the winter, they continued to monitor his progress and have now rekindled their interest.

Thomas Frank, who has just taken charge of the North London club, is looking to add more competition at the back, and they feel Esteve could be a great addition both for the short and the long run.

The club’s management has resumed contact with the newly promoted side as they look to reach an agreement in the coming days. Back in the winter window, Burnley were demanding over €35 million for his services.

Given his impressive performances and their return to Premier League football, they could now ask for an even higher fee. As a result, it will be interesting to see how negotiations pan out over the course of the coming weeks.
