Fulham to sign Montpellier goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte

Premier League side Fulham FC are set to sign Montpellier goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte (34), according to Bertrand Queneutte. Lecomte was expected to leave La Paillade following their relegation into Ligue 2 on the back of a disastrous Ligue 1 campaign for the club’s 50th anniversary. Lecomte was also one of Montpellier’s best-paid players. The former France U21 international, who is uncapped with Les Bleus despite being called up by Didier Deschamps, was tied with Montpellier over a contract set to expire in 2027.

The 34-year-old is expected to land in London this Monday to undergo a medical with Fulham FC. The Cottagers were looking for a backup goalkeeper to cover for Germany international Bernd Leno. Fulham have reportedly reached an agreement worth 500k with the Ligue 2 side. Foot Mercato reports that Montpellier will now scour the market for Lecomte’s replacement between the sticks. Montréal’s Jonathan Sirois is reportedly the priority target.
