Barcelona have seen a number of players train at their facilities over the years, and normally they have a history with the club. Sergi Roberto, Dani Alves (before his rape case) and plenty more have used the club’s Ciutat Esportiva to maintain fitness as they try to keep in shape while they look for a new club. However the latest appearance in camp may well cause a little more backlash.
According to Sport, former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng used Barcelona’s training ground on Thursday, and will continue to do so in the coming days. The 37-year-old is currently without a contract after leaving LASK Linz last summer as a free agent, and met with manager Hansi Flick. The two worked together during Flick’s years at Bayern as an assistant and then manager.

Boateng, in lieu of work on the pitch, was recently at Bayern, carrying out a coaching internship at Sabener Strasse. However protests from Bayern fans caused the club to halt the internship, as with banners appearing at their games reading ‘Draw the line against misognynistic violence’, there is no place for villains in our club, no more space for Boateng’, and ‘Those who find a place for an attacker share their guilt.’
In 2021, Boateng was convicted of assault in Munich after abusing ex-girlfriend Sherin Senler. Originally he was ordered to pay a €1.8m fine, although this was later reduced to just €100k in 2022. The same year of the court case, Der Spiegel leaked an email from Boateng’s mother, where she allegedly says “For years, my son has been abusing women psychologically and physically, now Kasia Lenhardt has taken her own life and he still doesn’t want to suffer the consequences for his behaviour.”

Lenhardt passed away at the age of 26 back the same year of the assault case, just a week after Boateng had publicly declared that he was separating from the influencer.
