Borussia Dortmund could make an attempt to sign Club Brugge’s Alexander Stankovic this month

Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund could make an attempt to sign Club Brugge midfielder Alexander Stankovic in the winter window.

Dortmund face competition from Stankovic’s former club Inter as well as fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen. Due to the interest in the 20-year-old, it will mean his price could continue to rise, to a point that would make him unattainable for die Schwarzgelben.

Last summer, a similar situation happened with Ardon Jashari. The 23-year-old was a target at the Westfalenstadion, but would ultimately end up moving to Milan for €36m.

This means, when it comes to Stankovic, Dortmund are considering making a strategic move for the defensive midfielder during this window, in an attempt to beat the pack to his signature.

What can Stankovic offer Dortmund?

BVB are well-stacked in midfield, despite Pascal Groß’s return to Brighton this month. In midfield, they have Felix Nmecha, Marcel Sabitzer, Emre Can and Jobe Bellingham.

The signing of Alexander, who is the son of former Inter player Dejan Stankovic, would be a move similar to the arrival of Bellingham in the summer. Stankovic is a strong defensive midfielder who also possesses good passing ability.

The 20-year-old has played 30 times for Brugge this season, following his €9.5m move from Inter in the summer. Stankovic even featured against Bayern Munich in the Champions League earlier this season.
