According to a report from L’Équipe, it’s unclear whether Lille OSC head coach Bruno Génésio will renew his contract at the club. His current deal ends after this campaign, and the head coach has been vague in his public statements about whether he will commit to an extension.
In early January, Génésio stated in a press conference, “Will I want to stay? We’ll see, it will depend on the circumstances. There are things that need to be clarified. I’ll discuss all of this when the time comes with the president. We’ll see if everything is in place to continue or not.”
Club president, Olivier Létang, has been more open. In an interview with Le Figaro published on the 16th of January, the president said, “The plan is for Bruno to stay with us. I hope he’ll be our coach in August, but I’m not the only one who decides.”
It’s been reported that there have been professional tensions between the two men, particularly during the transfer windows. Génésio would prefer a more experienced player to come through the door, while Létang has an eye on the future.
Lille are in a poor run of form amid a growing injury crisis, with the club having lost all but one of their games to start 2026 and slipping seven points adrift of the UEFA Champions League places. L’Équipe writes that it’s not certain Génésio will want to continue under the current circumstances.
It’s also not certain if Lille will continue planning for him to be their head coach if he cannot right the ship before the end of the season. Sacha Tavolieri has reported that the club are paying close attention to the post-playing career of their former striker, Burak Yılmaz, who could leave his role as head coach of Gaziantep at the end of the campaign.
