Eintracht Frankfurt players Arnaud Kalimuendo and Rasmus Kristensen are both slated for MRIs after exiting Saturday’s Bundesliga fixture injured. Kalimuendo lasted only 17 minutes after falling awkwardly on his shoulder early in the victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Right back Rasmus Kristensen took a blow to the ankle and found himself unable to contest the second half.
New Eintracht head coach Albert Riera conceded that matters “weren’t looking good” with respect to Kalimuendo when speaking at the post-match press conference. Kicker and Sport Bild both report that the Nottingham Forest loanee may be out for an extended period. Eintracht are close to getting leading goal-scorer Jonathan Burkardt back, but remain short-staffed in attack due to injuries to Can Uzun and Younes Ebnoutalib.
Kristensen – despite committing many defensive errors this season – remains one of Eintracht’s most committed team players. The Dane’s absence will certainly hurt the SGE, particularly in light of the fact that back-up right back Nnamdi Collins has struggled with his confidence this year. Eintracht’s defensive ranks were also thinned out this week by separate injury news.
Belgian international Arthur Theate – who has started 19 of 22 Bundesliga fixtures this year and gone the full 90 minutes on all but one occasion – also underwent an MRI this week. On Wednesday, the SGE confirmed that the 25-year-old had suffered a meniscus tear and will not be returning to action anytime soon. Despite fears of a potentially worse injury, it looks to be the case that Eintracht will be without Theate for at least a month.
