Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool sounded out for Nico Williams move

Intermediaries have reportedly sounded out Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool over a summer move for 23-year-old Athletic Club winger Nico Williams.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool are among the clubs that have seen intermediaries approaching them to confirm that Nico Williams will be available for a move in the summer transfer window. The Athletic Club winger is also a target for Barcelona, but the Blaugrana may face a tall order to land the 23-year-old, as he has a release clause worth €100 million in his contract with the Basque outfit.

How has Nico Williams fared in his senior career?

Nico Williams has established himself as one of the most exciting players in La Liga since breaking into the first-team squad at Athletic Club. Born in Pamplona, the Spaniard began his youth career at CA Osasuna before graduating from the Athletic Club’s academy a few years ago.

The 23-year-old has made nearly 200 appearances thus far for Athletic Club while chipping in with 35 goals and 36 assists, contributing to ten goals this term. Meanwhile, the Spanish winger’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Barcelona will be among the prospective suitors vying for Williams’s signature, while intermediaries have sounded out Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool for a move.

What next?

The UEFA Euro 2024 winner has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time. The Gunners remain in the market for a left-sided winger, as Gabriel Martinelli has been inconsistent in recent seasons. Additionally, Leandro Trossard’s long-term future at Arsenal is uncertain.

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s long-term interest in Nico Williams makes sense. While Marcus Rashford has been excellent in the 2025/26 season, it is unclear if he will remain at Camp Nou beyond the ongoing campaign. So, Williams is a viable target for Barcelona. However, the Catalan club’s financial issues mean affording a deal worth €100 million, the value of the Spaniard’s release clause, will be a tall order.

As for Chelsea, Liam Rosenior has a stacked offensive unit, having signed several wingers last summer. Additionally, Geovany Quenda will arrive from Sporting CP later this year. So, it is unclear how Williams fits into the scheme of things at Chelsea. As for Liverpool, Arne Slot needs more quality from the flanks, making the Athletic Club winger an option worth considering.

Intermediaries have also offered Manchester United the opportunity to sign Williams in the summer transfer window. So, an adventure in the Premier League may be on the cards for the 23-year-old Spanish international. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Williams.
