Doubts on whether Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer (39) will continue his career beyond the summer

Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) reports that there are doubts internally at Bayern Munich on whether Manuel Neuer will continue his career beyond the summer.

Neuer’s contract in Munich expires in the summer, and he has yet to make a decision whether he will extend and continue his career or retire. A decision is expected later this month, but as of right now, it is still 50/50.

Over the past few years, the 39-year-old has not been as consistent as in the past and has also begun to become unreliable when it comes to his fitness.

However, even if he does decide to retire this summer, it does not diminish the fact that Neuer is the greatest goalkeeper ever, or the GOAT.

Bayern’s post-Neuer plan:

If Neuer decides to retire, Jonas Urbig will be promoted to the number one position. With the 39-year-old currently out injured, the Köln native has acted as deputy and is being given the chance to prove himself.

Once Urbig has been promoted, Bayern will then look to sign an experienced keeper to act as number two, as both Alexander Nübel and Daniel Peretz, who are both out on loan and will return this summer, do not want to act as a backup.
