Zulte Waregem sack head coach following defeat to Standard Liege

Zulte Waregem are looking for a new head coach. After defeat to Standard Liege this weekend the side parted ways with Sven Vandenbroeck. For now, Vandenbroeck’s assistant Steve Colpaert (39) will temporarily take over. Zulte Waregem started the season well, having returned to the top flight thanks to Vandebroeck. However, after four defeats on the bounce and just two wins in their last 16 games, the decision makers at Zulte Waregem have decided that Vandenbroeck is not the man for the long term.

While the sides results have been poor, they have still been playing some great football and creating plenty of chances. Sadly, they have been unable to take these and as a result have lost a number of games. Yet, Vandebroeck may feel hard done by given the lack of precarity this season. Even if the side ended up in the bottom four, they have a comfortable points advantage over bottom of the table Dender and would unlikely be involved in the relegation play off.

Currently, Zulte Waregem are a point above the bottom four with just two games to go. Pressure will now be on the squad and Colpaert to get enough points from these next two games to ensure the board’s decision was justified.
