According to Sky Sports, Dan Casey is set to join Fulham after an agreement was struck with Arsenal on the compensation package. The teenage attacker will join up with the U-21 setup at Craven Cottage, as his capture represents a good coup which will be seen more for the future rather than the current first-team plans.
Dan Casey is considered one of the brightest prospects to come out of Arsenal’s Hale End academy, as he was close to being considered for the first team. The Gunners were impressed by his performances for the U-18s last season, which also opened up opportunities to play for the U-21s, as well as training with Mikel Arteta’s first team.
The Gunners did offer him a professional contract, which the teenager turned down in search of other opportunities. He was close to joining Crystal Palace in the summer before the proposed move was called off, and he has been without a club since.
He has reportedly been training with Fulham’s U-21s since January, as the Londoners had sought an agreement with the player beforehand. However, the agreement with Arsenal over compensation was still pending, which is now set to be formalised.
The figures behind the move are still under wraps, but the Cottagers are expected to pay a decent sum for the 2007-born, highly talented former Arsenal wonderkid. The player will officially join their U-21 setup imminently, as the talented attacking midfielder is seen as a big signing for the future rather than the present first-team setup.
Fulham are expected to make big plans for the summer in an attempt to gear up for another season where they can challenge for a European place. The Cottagers are still in contention to qualify for a European tournament with their league finish this season.
As for their transfers, their potential targets are still unclear, but they are eager to tie down key attacker Harry Wilson to a new deal, having presented him with an improved proposal of late. It remains to be seen whether the Welsh winger signs on fresh terms, as a host of Premier League teams are circling to sign him on a free transfer in the summer.
