Manchester United will be eager to return to winning ways when they host Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Michael Carrick has received a mixed bag of updates on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Noussair Mazraoui has been recovering from a minor foot injury, and he faces a late fitness test to determine his availability. Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez (calf), Patrick Dorgu (hamstring), and Matthis de Ligt (lower back) remain in the treatment room.
However, Mason Mount should be available after resuming training this week. Additionally, Mazraoui has been training this week, and may be in contention to feature alongside Mount. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Carrick provided a fitness update on the English international.
The Manchester United head coach said, “Mason’s back with the group, which is fantastic. He’s an important player for us, Mason, and to have him back and involved is a good step for us, definitely.”
“He’s not, you know, 100 per cent in terms of [being] back because he’s only trained a very small amount of time, but he’s back and that’s good for us. So, we’ll see if he’s involved or not on Sunday, but yeah, it’s a big step for him, but we’re happy with that. Yeah, that’s it in terms of players coming back for now.”
Senne Lammens is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Manchester United lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Aston Villa on Sunday. The backline will feature Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, and Luke Shaw. So, Mazraoui will be a backup option on the bench for the hosts.
As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo in the double pivot. Bruno Fernandes will reprise the no. 10 role, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha being the two wide attackers. Finally, Benjamin Sesko will lead the line for the home side against Aston Villa on Sunday. So, Amad Diallo and Mason Mount will be among the backup options on the bench for the Red Devils.

Predicted Manchester United: Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko
