Axel Disasi has certainly managed to revive himself since joining West Ham United at the start of February. Despite not making any appearances for Chelsea in the first half of the season, the French international has had much trouble at his new club.
He has had an instant impact under Nuno Espirito Santo. While he has only made eight appearances for the London club, they are already considering making his move permanent. According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham are all set to hold talks with Chelsea regarding a permanent transfer for the 28-year-old defender.
Disasi made a name for himself at AS Monaco. On the back of his impressive rise, the Blues secured his services in 2023 in a deal worth £38 million. While he was an important part of their first team in the initial seasons, the French centre-back eventually lost his place in the team.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, but the move didn’t work out in his favour. He was a part of Enzo Maresca’s bomb squad last summer. They were keen on getting him off their books, but things didn’t go according to plan for them.
He ended up staying at the London club, but Maresca had no intentions of using him. Even with Liam Rosenior taking charge of the Blues, things didn’t change for the French international. As a result, they ended up sending him out on loan to West Ham mid-season.
With the Hammers fighting for survival in the top flight, the 28-year-old has had an instant impact. As a result, they are now exploring the possibility of a permanent move. West Ham are set to hold talks with Chelsea. While they are keen on his signature, they can’t match the £38 million the Blues paid to sign him back in the day.
They have already paid a £1.68 million loan fee, and are covering his entire wage of £80,000-a-week. So he has already cost them around £3.5 million, and if the move is made permanent, the figure will go up significantly. While the Irons are very keen on signing him, the finances involved are making things very complicated.
