Enzo Fernandez comments draw Chelsea exit closer after further Real Madrid hints

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez continues to drop hints that he would be keen on a move to Real Madrid this summer. The Argentina midfielder has been very keen to express his desire to live in the Spanish capital, with Los Blancos on the hunt for a central midfielder in the transfer window.

Fernandez has for the fourth time in three weeks expressed uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge. Fernandez is in his third year at Chelsea after a €121m move from Benfica, but things have not gone as planned, and the Blues are currently battling for a Champions League spot in the Premier League, rather than the title.

Enzo Fernandez expresses desire to live in Madrid again

For a second time this week, Fernandez publicly declared a desire to live in Spain while speaking to Luzu TV, as quoted by Marca.

“I always tell my wife that if I had to choose a European city to live in, I’d really like Madrid. It’s very similar to Buenos Aires, the food, everything…”

Franco Mastantuono, who was present during the interview, confirmed that ‘of course’ he would love to have Fernandez as a club teammate. Continuing to make ‘the right noises’ for a move to Real Madrid, Fernandez cited Toni Kroos as one of the players that has impressed him most on the pitch.

“Since I play in the same position, I always try to study the opposing team’s midfielders, and I’m particularly impressed with Toni Kroos. I played against Real Madrid at the Bernabéu, and both he and Modric are incredible; they have so much quality.”

Chelsea teammates unhappy with Fernandez comments

According to The Telegraph, Fernandez’s comments are starting to grate on his teammates. Between his casting consistent doubt on his future, and berating teammates during defeats to Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain, the Chelsea dressing room are less than impressed.

Chelsea posted on their social media a picture of Fernandez with the caption ‘Always Blue’, and is under contract until 2032. The 25-year-old clearly appears to be making it clear that he would be open to a move to Real Madrid, but so far Chelsea have not opened the door to a move.
