Aston Villa, Leeds United eye summer move for Danilho Doekhi, face Besiktas battle

Danilho Doekhi is once again attracting the interest of Leeds United and Aston Villa, with Besiktas ready to battle for the defender.

Danilho Doekhi is about to leave Bundesliga side Union Berlin as a free agent in the summer, which has attracted some clubs towards his signature. As per Inside Futbol, Aston Villa and Leeds United are back in the mix for the 27-year-old Dutch defender, while Turkish giants Besiktas are eager to explore an early deal.

Danilho Doekhi has reportedly decided to leave Union Berlin for a new challenge when his contract expires in the summer. The Dutch defender is entering the prime of his career and could seek a big move, with England seeming like a likely destination in the close season.

Having joined the Bundesliga side from Vitesse Arnhem in 2022, the Dutchman has been an integral part of Union Berlin, including this season, where he has played 29 times in the Bundesliga. He is a valuable member of the team, and the German outfit turned down approaches during the January transfer window.

Leeds United and Aston Villa were interested then, with the prospect of signing an experienced defender on the cheap. However, Doekhi has been keen to see out the season with Union Berlin, as the idea of leaving as a free agent would also bring about attractive offers on a personal front.

There were indications then that he might be interested in joining Leeds United, and that could still be the case depending on the kind of offers Daniel Farke’s side makes. The German tactician plays with a back three and will need multiple defensive options, although should the 27-year-old centre-back arrive in the summer, it could spell the end for Sebastiaan Bornauw at Elland Road.

Will Besiktas challenge for Danilho Doekhi’s signature?

Aston Villa are in the market for cost-effective additions to their squad in a bid to stay on the right side of their PSR obligations. Doekhi’s availability for a Bosman move does pique their interest, as the Birmingham giants could be a strong contender.

Besiktas could pose a big problem for both Premier League teams, as they are eager to explore an early deal for the defender. The Turkish giants are reportedly in touch with the player’s camp to understand the kind of offer the Dutchman is looking for, which might see them take the lead in this particular race.
