Igor Tyjon set to join Arsenal as deal agreed

Arsenal have an agreement in place to sign Blackburn Rovers’ teenage attacking sensation Igor Tyjon.

Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Igor Tyjon, with the highly rated 18-year-old to undergo his medical before completing his move to the Emirates Stadium.

According to Standard Sport, Arsenal will pay £1 million up front for Tyjon, with a further £2 million potentially due in add-ons. The England youth international was scheduled to complete his medical on Friday, with a formal announcement expected early next week.

Tyjon has been a long-standing target for Arsenal, who first attempted to sign him last summer before returning with another approach in January. Blackburn rejected both offers, but the Championship club were eventually unable to convince the teenager to remain at Ewood Park.

The forward rejected the opportunity to sign professional terms with Blackburn as he pushed for a move to the North London club. The teenager is now expected to train regularly with Mikel Arteta’s first team while primarily playing for the Under-21s.

However, the Gunners are also planning to give him opportunities around the senior squad, with the teenager expected to receive some first-team minutes during the season. The move represents another investment in a promising young attacker for the Premier League champions.

What will Arsenal get in Tyjon?

Tyjon joined Blackburn from Rochdale in 2023 and has already made three senior appearances for the club, including two during the 2024/25 campaign. His limited senior experience means Arsenal are unlikely to rush him into regular Premier League action, but his versatility could accelerate his progression.

Primarily a central striker, Tyjon can also operate from the left wing or attacking midfield. Tyjon unsettles defenders through his mobility and acceleration, threatening both in behind and on the ball over distance.

His movement without the ball is particularly impressive, timing runs into the box, finding pockets of space, and dragging defenders to create opportunities for teammates. He offers creativity for a forward, combining layoffs and through-balls with genuine pressing intensity, making him a fit for Arteta’s possession-based, high-pressing system.

He must improve his physical presence and finishing consistency, but Arsenal believe his potential justifies the relatively modest initial investment. With the agreement now in place, Tyjon is on course to become the latest young prospect to join the North London club’s long-term project.
