According to Rheinische Post via SportWitness, Haris Tabakovic could be playing in the Premier League next season as Leeds United are interested in acquiring his services. The Yorkshire-based outfit seek more quality in the final third, and the in-form Bosnia and Herzegovina international could be a great bargain buy for them.
Tabakovic is currently on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach from Hoffenheim, and he is certainly enjoying his time there. Overall, he has been involved in 31 games and has contributed towards 16 goals this season. 13 of those goal contributions have come in the Bundesliga, where he averages a goal every 73rd minute.
While the 31-year-old’s loan deal doesn’t include a buy option, Monchengladbach are considering securing his services on a permanent basis. However, their chances of securing his services depend on whether they survive in the German top flight.
They are 14th on the table and nine points above the drop zone. With only a handful of games to go, they should be safe. But, even that won’t be enough, as their financial situation isn’t that great. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international will return to his parent club in the summer, but he has no future there.
As a result, Hoffenheim have set a €5 million asking price for the veteran striker. While that looks like a bargain fee for someone who has 16 goal contributions, Monchengladbach can’t afford to pay that fee because of their financial struggles.
It has opened the door for Leeds United to try to sign Tabakovic. While Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done a decent job for Daniel Farke’s team, the manager seeks more quality and competition in the final third; the 31-year-old can certainly help their cause.
If they survive in the English top flight, the price tag certainly won’t be a problem for them. At this point, Leeds are certainly in the driving seat, but the player is likely to have the final say, and he could push to continue at Monchengladbach, having succeeded there this season.
