Manchester United, Liverpool join race to sign David Raum

Manchester United and Liverpool are part of the race for David Raum, after watching the left-back in action for RB Leipzig.

David Raum is attracting significant interest from Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of the summer. As per Team Talk, observers from both clubs were present to watch the 27-year-old left-back in action as RB Leipzig defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach.

David Raum put in a man-of-the-match performance as his team, RB Leipzig, defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-0. The left-back has a year left on his deal with the top-four Bundesliga club, which has caused speculation to rise over his future.

Raum has been a strong performer for Leipzig this season, and the club would certainly want to keep hold of him. However, the growing interest, particularly from the Premier League, could give rise to the idea of a departure in the summer, as Manchester United and Liverpool enter the race.

Observers from both clubs were present to watch the game in question, although both are equally linked with highly-rated winger Yan Diomande. The Ivorian is expected to decide his future after the World Cup, with Liverpool and Manchester United both interested. While observers watched the attacker in action as he scored the eventual winner, Raum did not disappoint them either with his display.

Raum has made over 100 appearances for Leipzig, with the 27-year-old left-back also in contention to play for Germany at the World Cup. With Liverpool and Manchester United seeking a new left-back to add competition for places, they could sense an opportunity with Raum, given he is about to enter the final year of his deal with Leipzig.

David Raum to the Premier League?

Raum represents one of the highly rated yet experienced left-backs in Germany, and Manchester United have been keen on him. The fitness of Luke Shaw and the need for quality cover in the position — especially after the club moved away from a previous style implemented by former boss Ruben Amorim — means the need for an extra left-back is huge, amid links to players like Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Liverpool are in a somewhat similar boat, as they are also keen to land a new left-back with Andy Robertson set to leave the club on a free transfer. Lewis Hall is among those linked with a move to Liverpool as well as Manchester United, but they could eye Raum as a cost-effective option to improve the stability of the left-back position and add competition to the likes of Milos Kerkez.
