Manchester City are once again using their internal model from within the City Football Group to develop players. As per Sacha Tavolieri, Pep Guardiola’s side are close to securing the signature of Mathys Detourbet from sister club Troyes, with a clear plan to keep developing the 18-year-old French winger prodigy.
Mathys Detourbet is impressing with Troyes in what is only his second season in senior football. Having come through the club’s academy system, the teenage winger has already made a stellar mark on proceedings and is playing a key part in the club’s promotion to Ligue 1 this season.
Troyes are currently leading Ligue 2, as the club are heavily anticipating top-tier football next season. However, being a part of the City Football Group may see the French side lose the 18-year-old winger, as Manchester City are the one ready to take him on board.
Manchester City have been chasing Detourbet since January, and while there were some other clubs keen, the City Football Group have ensured the player remains in their system. Pep Guardiola’s side have reportedly agreed a deal worth €15 million with Troyes for the transfer of the teenager.
As a measure to help Detourbet keep developing and get a taste of Ligue 1 action, they are reportedly willing to send him on loan back to Troyes for next season. Such a move could help the player continue his progress with the French side, as he is then expected to make the switch to the Etihad in the summer of 2027.
Manchester City have used their multi-club model before to help develop talent, specifically through Girona. They signed Savinho from the Spanish club, while currently Guardiola’s side have loaned promising defender Vitor Reis to the La Liga side to aid his development.
From across the Atlantic, Manchester City are keen on Jonathan Shore, who plays for fellow City Football Group club New York City FC. There are plans in place to bring the young attacker to England, which could see him loaned to another one of their sister clubs — similar to the arrangement being lined up for Detourbet.
