OGC Nice could only retain Elye Wahi, if…

OGC Nice have publicly stated their intention to retain Elye Wahi (23) beyond the end of his loan. However, doing so will not be easy, Nice-Matin understand.

Since joining, he has scored four goals in 11 appearances in Ligue 1. His entrance off the bench against SCO Angers, most notably, changed the course of the game as Nice won 2-0. That is one of only two wins in the league for Le Gym in 2026.

Club co-president Maurice Cohen confirmed Nice’s intention to keep Wahi, currently on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt. “We would like to keep him. In football, everything is possible. He is a very endearing young man […] we would like to renew his loan,” Cohen told Ici Azur earlier this week.

However, Nice-Matin understand that a renewal is not on the cards. Eintracht Frankfurt would want to sell the player and they would not do so for less than €15m. Nice cannot meet that asking price and could only do so in the event that the club is sold by INEOS. They are for sale, with a bank mandated to find a buyer.

Wahi himself would also wants to play in European competition next season. Le Gym, mired in a relegation battle in the league, would have to win against RC Lens in the Coupe de France final in order to attain it.
