Curtis Jones was a surprise late January target for Inter, but the deal didn’t come together. He has been playing regularly as of late, starting in five of the last seven matches, thanks to his versatility and some absences.
According to Fabrizio Romano (via Tribuna), the midfielder isn’t any closer to prolonging his contract, which expires in 2027. His future will hang in the balance until that happens. The Reds are plotting to bring in multiple reinforcements and could sell some of their own player to increase their economic firepower.
Inter remain interested in Jones and could move again for him if his price tag wasn’t prohibitive. Tottenham tendered €40M in the past, but Liverpool didn’t want to lose him at the time. His valuation has naturally decreased, considering his contractual situation.
The 25-year-old homegrown product has been a staple of the first team since 2020/2021 and has racked up 224 appearances at Anfield, notching 21 goals and 25 assists. He has starred six times with England, scoring once.
Per Mediaset, the Nerazzurri are setting up a proper overhaul of their midfield. While Hakan Calhanoglu is slated to stay with or without a new contract, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who’s weighing retirement, and Davide Frattesi are on their way out. The Reds man is one of their priority targets alongside Aleksandar Stankovic and Manu Koné.
Their deputies have been very up-and-down, and there’ll predictably be plenty of movement in the role, so someone who could handle multiple positions well wouldn’t hurt. Though the price would have to be right. It’s often challenging for Serie A sides to acquire from England for that reason.
