Marseille have probably reached the nadir of their wretched second half of the season with a 3-0 hammering against a Nantes team that was winless in Ligue 1 since February. OM have been abysmal and second-to-best in all aspects at La Beaujoire. Les Phocéens eventually succumbed to a 3-goal blitz in eight minutes in the second half with Ignatius Ganago, Rémy Cabella and Matthis Abline on the scoresheet.
Now down in seventh place with their hopes of playing in next season’s Champions League all but gone, Marseille are in complete disarray, and Habib Beye was at a loss for words in speaking to Ligue1+ – Ligue 1’s in-house streaming platform.
“There’s no explanation. We all saw the same game. It’s very difficult to analyze it right now because there was nothing. For me, there’s no analysis, because we didn’t even play”, Beye said. The former Newcastle United full-back came out fighting at reports he has reportedly lost the Marseille dressing room. After losing 3-0 to Nantes, his discourse changed. “What happens in the dressing room stays there. I said what I had to say to them.”
Beye tore into his players and added that they didn’t deserve a spot in the Champions League following today’s unacceptable performance. “I could have hooked 80 or 90% of the team at half-time.” Beye took his share of the blame, stating that he’s “really feeling unwell” after what happened and that he needs “to take a hard look” at himself.
