Genk defender returns to Spain and joins Rayo Vallecano on loan

Genk have announced that 26-year-old Spanish defender Mujaid Sadick has joined Rayo Vallecano on loan. The defender returns to Spanish football for the first time since joining Genk back in 2021. Sadick had always been expected to leave Genk this summer, but it has not been reported whether or not a purchase option has been included in the loan deal with Rayo Vallecano.

Sadick joined Genk in 2021 from Deportivo A Coruna, where he had played 55 games. Sadick went on to play 166 games for Genk, scoring five goals. Sadick has been a mainstay of the Genk defence over the past few seasons, playing 49 games for the club last season with two goals. He now joins a Rayo Vallecano side that surprised everyone by making it to the final of the Conference League last season. Like Genk, Rayo Vallecano did not qualify for European football last season.

So far in La Liga this season, Rayo Vallecano have not won any of their opening three games. So far, the side have drawn one and lost two of their games.
