According to a report from TBR, Arsenal have reached an agreement with Martin Zubimendi regarding a move to the Emirates this summer. Andrea Berta’s arrival at the club has helped them strike a deal with the player’s camp. The new sporting director has also held talks with Real Sociedad as they look to complete the transfer in the coming weeks.
Zubimendi has come up the ranks at Sociedad and he has been a part of their first-team setup since the summer of 2020. He has gone on to establish himself as one of their most important players and of late, he has been a regular in the Spanish national team.
His consistent performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. While multiple top clubs wanted to sign him last summer, he decided to continue at the Spanish club for another season.
However, it seems he is now ready to make the jump to a bigger club. The 26-year-old defensive midfielder will still have two years left on his deal in the summer but he is closing in on a move to the Premier League.
Arsenal, who have a long-standing interest in him, are within touching distance of signing the 2024 Euro winner. The Gunners have been working on a potential transfer for some time but they were struggling to reach an agreement.
However, the arrival of Andrea Berta has helped them strike a deal with the player’s camp. The former Atletico Madrid chief has pushed to secure the services of the 26-year-old and they now have total agreement on personal terms on a long-term deal.
The Gunners have already started holding talks with Sociedad as they look to decide the terms of payment. Berta is the one leading the talks and it shouldn’t really be that difficult for them to get it over the line as they are set to trigger his £51 million (€60 million) release clause. The North London club have already begun making arrangements regarding the final payment.
Zubimendi will certainly add a lot of quality to their midfield. His arrival will add quality as well as depth. With Thomas Partey’s future not yet certain, he could be an ideal replacement for the Ghanaian international.
