Barcelona warned against signing Luis Diaz

Former Barcelona scout Bojan Krkic Sr has warned the Catalans against pursuing Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz in the summer.

Luis Diaz could be the subject of big interest from elsewhere if he fails to renew his deal at Liverpool. The Colombian attacker has been a key figure in Arne Slot’s Premier League-winning side this season, although his future beyond the summer has come into significant doubt.

The Colombian will enter the final two years of his deal at Merseyside, as Liverpool might see the upcoming window as the best possible time for a sale. The 28-year-old has been inconsistent at best for Liverpool, although Arne Slot has been able to use him in different roles during the campaign.

Diaz wants to stay at Liverpool and sign a new deal, although there might be a reluctance to pay a huge salary from the Reds. There are indications that the Merseysiders might open their doors to offers if they cannot agree on a new contract, as a lot of clubs, including Barcelona, are keeping close tabs.

Barcelona are keeping tabs on his contractual situation and could make a move if the Colombian fails to renew his deal at Liverpool. This is not the first time the Catalans have seen links with the Colombian, as Diaz’s father’s comments earlier in the season indicated his son might see a move to La Liga as a dream scenario.

Former Barcelona scout Bojan Krkic Sr has now warned the club over pursuing the 28-year-old in the summer. In his comments on AS Colombia, Krkric Sr insisted Diaz was far too inconsistent and cited that factor as the main reason why the Catalans should not spend heavily on the Liverpool star.

Krkric Sr said, “Luis Díaz is a great player, but he lacks consistent performance. If I were at Barça, I wouldn’t sign him. I followed him when he was at Porto and now at Liverpool.

“He’s a player who does wonders for you, then disappears for three games, or in one game, he gives you a brutal half-hour and disappears. At Porto, he was even a substitute, and then at Liverpool, it’s also because of that.”

Barcelona have indeed shown a massive interest in Diaz throughout the season, as the report states, Hansi Flick might be open to the idea. The Catalans and their manager are looking for an additional attacker who could potentially play different roles, as Diaz certainly fits that bill.

However, Krkic Sr has a point, and while Barcelona might prioritise a move for Diaz, they might want to understand what their former scout is suggesting in this regard. Diuaz has been a good player for Liverpool, although as Krkric Sr suggests, he does disappear quite often, and is at times, seen warming the bench.
