Liverpool weigh up £70 million move for Eberechi Eze

Arne Slot’s Liverpool are considering making a move for Tottenham Hotspur target Eberechi Eze.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Eberechi Eze and they are seriously considering making a move for the Crystal Palace star. Apart from the Reds, Tottenham are also keen on his signature and their interest is the most advanced at this stage.

Eze hasn’t looked back since joining the Eagles from QPR in the summer of 2020. Not only has he gone on to establish himself as a key figure in the team, but the 26-year-old is also widely regarded as one of the best-attacking midfielders in Europe.

He has had another exceptional season at Palace as he has bagged 13 goals and 11 assists in his 41 outings across competitions. Eze recently scored the winner in their FA Cup final win over Manchester City, helping the Eagles win their first major silverware.

While he will still have two years left on his deal in the summer, his departure looks almost certain as multiple top clubs prepare to knock on the door of Palace. He is protected by a £70 million release clause and the Eagles would want that to be paid in full for a potential departure in the summer.

Liverpool could make a move for Eze

The price tag is certainly on the higher side, but several clubs are willing to invest that kind of money given his talent and potential. Liverpool are one of the clubs that are considering making a move for the 26-year-old.

While the Reds did clinch the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s debut campaign, the Dutch manager is still keen on making significant changes to his squad as he looks to ensure they maintain their levels in the second season. He wants more quality in attack and is willing to part ways with a few of their existing stars.

They have held a long-standing interest in Eze and believe he would be a valuable addition to the squad, bringing both creativity and goals. While he prefers playing as a ten, the former QPR star can feature on either flank which will give Slot great tactical flexibility.

Tottenham are pushing hard to sign Eze

The Reds are interested in his services but they are yet to establish any contract regarding a potential deal. Meanwhile, Tottenham are also very keen on signing him. Their interest is believed to be the most advanced at this point.

The North London club consider him an ideal fit for their project. He could provide competition to James Maddison for a place in the XI and could provide cover on the flanks. While they are pushing to have him on their squad, they are exploring alternative payment terms as they might not be able to pay his £70 million release clause in one go.
