According to Bild via Sport Witness, Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel is attracting big interest from top Premier League sides ahead of the summer. Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United are among those interested with the Swiss star reportedly carrying a price tag of €60-70 million.
Gregor Kobel has had another important campaign with Borussia Dortmund, with the 27-year-old playing a crucial role in their Champions League qualification. The Swiss stopper is widely expected to take up a new challenge in the close season, as the report interprets his recent comments as an indicator of a departure in the close season.
The experience the Swiss star brings in is considered key by Dortmund, who reportedly want around €60-70 million. The chances of any Premier League side paying as much seem remote, although Kobel has no shortages of interest from English clubs ahead of the summer.
Newcastle United are one of those interested although with Nick Pope seen as Eddie Howe’s main No.1, the Magpies are unlikely to splash as much on the €60-70 million-rated Bundesliga star. Hence, it might be wise to rule out the club from the race, as only a massive reduction in the price point might bring them back in.
Chelsea are also interested in Kobel alongside some of his Dortmund teammates like Jamie Gittens. The Blues are looking to replace Robert Sanchez between the sticks especially if they qualify for the Champions League, as Kobel is seen as one of the options, although the €60-70 million-rated Bundesliga star might be deemed expensive for their taste.
Manchester United are also in the mix for Kobel, as the club have lost patience with Andre Onana. The Cameroonian has come in for heavy criticism for many of his performances for the Red Devils, as Ruben Amorim might greenlight a sale and bring in a replacement. Onana has interest from Saudi Arabia, which might end up suiting all parties concerned.
Manchester United could be in a good enough position to sign someone like Kobel, although, once again, his asking price might be a huge issue. The Red Devils, alongside Chelsea and Newcastle United, are likely to keep tabs on the €60-70 million-rated Bundesliga star, although they might angle a move for someone significantly cheaper in the market.
