Jamie Gittens wants England return, Arsenal ahead of Chelsea in battle

Arsenal leading the race for the signature of Chelsea attacking target Jamie Gittens, who wants to return to England.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Arsenal and Chelsea are both keen on signing Borussia Dortmund attacking sensation Jamie Gittens. The English youth international is on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs from across Europe but he prefers a return to England, where the Gunners are believed to be the front-runners.

Gittens was a part of the Manchester City youth setup before he made the move to Dortmund in the summer of 2020. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2022.

The 20-year-old has slowly established himself as a key figure in the team and he has certainly been quite effective in the final third this season. In his 48 matches across competitions, he has 12 goals and five assists.

While he prefers playing on the left flank, he is well capable of featuring anywhere in attack. His impressive performances and massive potential have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs.

Premier League giants to battle for Gittens

Multiple Premier League clubs are keen on bringing him back to England. Arsenal and Chelsea are two of the biggest clubs that are after his signature. The Blues had him on their roster for a short while during his youth days and they are now looking to re-sign him.

With Mykhailo Mudryk facing a lengthy ban for doping and Jadon Sancho’s future still uncertain, Enzo Maresca is looking for more quality on the flanks and Gittens could be seen as an upgrade on the left flank. More importantly, he is a perfect fit for their project that revolves around signing the best young players.

Arsenal leading the race for Gittens

While the Blues are pushing for his signature, they are behind rivals Arsenal in the race. The Gunners want more quality on the flanks as they have been over-reliant on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. Gittens prefers playing on the left but he can be used on either flank.

He can certainly challenge Martinelli for a place in the starting XI and could prove to be a great acquisition in the long run. With his contract at Dortmund running until the summer of 2028, signing him won’t be that straightforward.

The German giants will only let him leave on their terms and a potential transfer could cost around €55 million. While there are other European clubs who want him, the English clubs do have an advantage as Gittens wants to return to the Premier League.
