According to Football Insider, Tottenham could be set for a major squad overhaul in the summer as players like Cristian Romero could be on their way. The Argentine defender was instrumental in their win in the Europa League Final, as the upcoming game in the Premier League could potentially be his last for the club.
Tottenham are basking in the glory of winning the Europa League this week following a stellar defensive display against Manchester United. Cristian Romero was adjudged the man of the match in the Bilbao Final, as his heroics landed Spurs a place in next season’s Champions League.
The upcoming game on Sunday will see the Premier League season come to a close, and which might also be the last time Romero plays for Tottenham. The report strongly suggests Spurs are open to a squad overhaul, as players like the 27-year-old Argentine could depart.
Romero has been linked with a switch to La Liga, where Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are heavily interested in the defender. The former were keen, and still hold an interest, although it will be curious to see if they make their move for the 27-year-old given they have agreed on a deal with Bournemouth for Dean Huijsen.
Atletico Madrid are the heavily interested party so far, and the lure of playing with many of Romero’s international teammates will be key as well as being coached under Diego Simeone. There were reports that Romero could push for a move from Spurs if Daniel Levy denies him a move in the summer.
Tottenham are already looking for replacements in the market, as Romero could be on his way to one of the La Liga sides. Spurs reportedly want £50 million to sell the defender, although the real figure might be much higher given how Levy operates the sales side of the club.
Losing Romero will be seen as a big loss for Spurs, although his recent problems will injury might be the main reason for the club’s decision on the 27-year-old Argentine. It remains to be seen where he ends up joining, as there might be an off chance he even stays with Tottenham if the conditions are right.
