According to Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham are reportedly interested in a move for 20-year-old Italian defender Francesco Coppola. The teenager plays his trade with Serie B side Pisa but spent the previous campaign on loan with third-tier team Vis Pesaro.
Tottenham are basking in glory following their tremendous Europa League campaign. The north London side triumphed over Premier League rivals Manchester United in the final of the second-tier European competition, following a solitary goal from Brennan Johnson in the Bilbao Final.
Their league form has been abysmal so far, as they languish in 17th place heading to the final matchday of the season. However, the triumph in the Europa League gives them entry into next season’s Champions League purely based on winning that second-tier competition.
They will use the incoming funds that Champions League football guarantees to strengthen their squad in the right way. However, they are not ready to give up on their long-term project, which has seen the club invest a lot in young talents.
In recent years, the likes of Lucas Bergwall, Archie Gray and the likes of Mikey Moore have come through the first team. The club are planning to scour different markets for top young talents, and their latest search has taken them deep into Italy’s footballing pyramid and right into Serie C.
Francesco Cappola spent the current season with Serie C side Vis Pesaro while being on loan from Serie B outfit Pisa. He has caught the attention of several top clubs in Italy, and now Tottenham are showing big interest in taking him to England.
Spurs are also linked with Pietro Comuzzo, who has excelled in Fiorentina this season, and while the Viola defender is seen as first-team material, the likes of Coppola could be seen for the future. The terms surrounding the transfer of the 20-year-old Italian defensive prodigy remain unclear, as Spurs will hope to get him on the cheap in the summer and build their squad for the future.
