Barcelona hold talks to sign Marcus Rashford

Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old English international Marcus Rashford from Manchester United on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Marcus Rashford is the subject of interest from FC Barcelona. The newly crowned La Liga champions are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Manchester United misfit has emerged as a target for the Blaugrana.

The Catalan club’s sporting director, Deco, met the Englishman’s agent on Wednesday morning to continue discussions over a possible move in the summer transfer window. Barcelona would prefer a loan deal with a purchase option, while Manchester United will demand around €40 million to part ways with Rashford.

The Marcus Rashford renaissance

Marcus Rashford has reached a crossroads in his career after a successful loan stint with Aston Villa in the second half of the 2024/25 season. A rejuvenated Rashford’s improved performances meant he contributed to 20 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa and Manchester United, finding the back of the net 11 times and providing nine assists.

However, Aston Villa’s failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League means the West Midlands outfit will struggle to seal a permanent deal for the English international in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Barcelona will aim to beat the competition to Rashford’s signature, with Manchester United ready to cash in on him.

La Liga adventure beckons?

Barcelona’s interest in Marcus Rashford is understandable. The newly crowned La Liga champions are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a versatile attacker. Ansu Fati will likely depart from Camp Nou in the coming weeks. In addition, the Manchester United misfit’s ability means he can cover every offensive position.

In addition, Rashford’s qualities make him the ideal foil for Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski. However, Barcelona will aim to secure a loan deal for the 27-year-old Englishman, with the arrangement including a purchase option. On the other hand, Manchester United would prefer a permanent sale for around €40 million.

Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that Rashford has enlisted Pini Zahavi to help him secure the move to Barcelona. However, Deco met his agent on Wednesday, and the report does not mention Zahavi. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can convince Manchester United to offload the English international on a loan deal with a purchase option instead of holding out for €40 million.
