According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Rasmus Hojlund has reportedly green-lit the idea of making a Serie A return. Inter Milan are one of the teams keen to bring the Danish striker back to Italy, as the Erik ten Hag signing nears an exit from Manchester United.
Manchester United had one of the worst seasons in their history, as they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham. Rasmus Hojlund, a £72 million signing by former manager Erik ten Hag failed miserably and was regarded as one of their worst performers during an otherwise disappointing campaign on all fronts.
Hojlund scored 10 goals across all competitions, which has been deemed below-par for a player of his quality and reputation. He is expected to leave the club in the summer, as the chances of that happening have increased exponentially since the season ended.
Ruben Amorim is ready to sanction a sale, as Manchester United are already revamping their attacking setup, with a new striker planned in the summer. That does leave Hojlund staring at the prospect of leaving his ‘dream club’ as a move back to Serie A could be on the cards.
A host of Italian clubs are looking at Hojlund as a potential option, including Juventus and Napoli. The latter are reportedly closing in on Jonathan David, while there are doubts about the latter, especially now that Inter Milan are firmly in the race.
Inter Milan chief executive Piero Ausilio has held extensive conversations with Hojlund and his camp over a move, as the striker has now reportedly approved of the idea. He has green-lit the prospect of playing at the San Siro next season, although there’s no agreement to report just yet.
Inter Milan are already working to sign Hojlund, as the Erik ten Hag signing could be drafted in to replace one of their existing strikers. There’s a change of system anticipated at the San Siro following the departure of manager Simone Inzaghi, as the Dane is viewed favourably by the club for his youth as well as the experience he has in Serie A with former side Atalanta.
Now, any move will depend on an agreement with Manchester United, as Inter Milan were reportedly open to proposing a loan move with a substantial option to buy Hojhlund. Whether that idea resonates with the Red Devils remains to be seen, as they are prioritising player sales over loans, as they want guaranteed cash returns for their failed investments.
