Tottenham blocking Rosario Central return for Alejo Veliz

Tottenham attacker Alejo Veliz wants to rejoin Rosario Central in the summer transfer window, but the Lilywhites want him to complete a loan move to a European club.

According to an update by reputed Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Alejo Veliz is the subject of interest from Rosario Central. The Argentine outfit will aim to re-sign the Tottenham attacking prospect in the summer transfer window after submitting a loan bid to secure his services.

The 2003-born striker is keen on returning to his former club in the summer transfer window to continue his progress. However, Tottenham will put up a roadblock in front of Veliz and Rosario Central, with the North London club eager to send him on loan to a European club. The latest claims contradict suggestions from Ole, which revealed that an agreement was on the verge of completion.

Alejo Veliz and his Tottenham travails

Alejo Veliz has had to bide his time since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Rosario Central in August 2023. The 21-year-old arrived at the North London club with the burgeoning reputation of being one of the best young attacking prospects in his homeland. However, the young striker has yet to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Argentine striker has spent 18 months on loan in La Liga from February 2024 to present, having been with Sevilla in the second half of the 2023/24 season before joining Espanyol on a season-loan deal last summer. However, Veliz managed only 1,303 minutes of game time across 29 appearances for Espanyol while scoring four goals.

What next?

After two underwhelming loan stints, Alejo Veliz must join a club where he can play regularly and continue his progress. Otherwise, leaving Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent deal will be his ideal solution, as competing with Dominic Solanke for the first-choice striker’s berth will become increasingly unlikely.

Widespread reports have linked Veliz with Rosario Central, and returning to his former club may be the ideal solution for the 2003-born striker. With the Argentine outfit submitting a bid and the player keen on rejoining the team, one would have thought an agreement was on the cards.

However, Cesar Luis Merlo has suggested that Tottenham would prefer a loan spell in Europe instead of sending him back to Argentina. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the 20-year-old Argentine attacking prospect.
