Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Borussia Dortmund attacking sensation Jamie Gittens. According to Fabrice Hawkins, the Blues have reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with the English winger over a seven-year deal. Having received a green light from the player’s side, they are now looking to strike a deal with the Bundesliga giants.
Gittens has not looked back since joining Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in the summer of 2020. The Englishman went up their ranks at some pace and has been a part of their first-team setup since 2022.
The 20-year-old has gone on to establish himself as a key figure in the team. He was involved in 48 matches during the 2024/25 season and even ended up contributing towards 17 goals.
Gittens’s performances have not gone unnoticed and there are quite a few top clubs that want to sign the English youth international. While his contract at Borussia Dortmund runs until 2028, Gittens have been keen on securing a return to England, and Chelsea are all set to offer him the opportunity.
The Blues are on the lookout for more quality on the flanks with Jadon Sancho returning to his parent club, Joao Felix likely to leave and Mykhailo Mudryk serving a ban. They have been tracking Jamie Gittens for some time and consider him an ideal fit for Enzo Maresca’s system.
The English attacking prospect can feature on either flank and is an ideal fit for their project, which revolves around signing the best young players in the world. The Blues have been working on a potential transfer for some time and have finally taken a major step towards securing his services.
The West London club have managed to convince Gittens to join them. They have an agreement in principle with the English youth international over a seven-year deal. With the youngster ready to make the switch, Chelsea now need to reach an agreement with Borussia Dortmund.
The Blues have been in talks with the Bundesliga club for some time, and negotiations will continue going forward. Given how things have panned out so far, Chelsea should soon strike a deal with the Black and Yellows for the 20-year-old. They are pushing to have him in their squad for the upcoming Club World Cup.
