According to Caught Offside, a host of Premier League sides are angling a move for Sporting CP’s wide player Geny Catamo. The Mozambique star has been a solid presence for the Portuguese club, as the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Fulham are pushing to see if a move is viable.
Geny Catamo is listed as a right winger, although he has played as a right wing-back for the majority of his games for Sporting CP. There are a host of interested clubs looking at him as a right winger, as there’s a chance for the Mozambique star to leave the Portuguese club if an appealing proposal lands on his table.
There are some interested parties, but Sporting CP are protected by a €60 million release clause in Catamo’s contract, and they are adamant about it. Yet, the report states clubs are willing to test the waters with a 25-€30 million bid, which will also reveal Sporting CP’s stance on the attacker.
Aston Villa are among those interested, but the price point may be a huge problem for Unai Emery’s side to make their move. They are looking for a new right winger as the club anticipates the departure of Leon Bailey, which will leave them a bit short in the attacking third.
Fulham hold interest, as they wish to add to their attack, as the Cottagers were keen to explore a move for the €60m-rated wide player back in the January market. However, the bigger interest comes from the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle United, with either of those teams in the market for a wide attacker.
Arsenal had set sights on Leroy Sane, as someone who could come in as an additional right winger in the team. The German has since signed for Galatasaray, which leaves the Gunners in the hunt for a new wide attacker on the right, as Catamo could be seen as a viable option. Arsenal are not expected to pay anywhere close to the release clause of the €60m-rated wide player, although they will be around the case if the price drops by a massive amount.
Newcastle United are chasing Anthony Elanga, as Eddie Howe wants a quality player on the right side of his front three. He could potentially view Catamo as a cheaper alternative to the Nottingham Forest man, while the €60m-rated wide player can also play as a right-back at times, as the Magpies might lose Kieran Trippier. Any move for the winger will depend on whether he wants to leave Sporting CP, and if the Portuguese side will accept anything less than his release clause.
