Speaking on a YouTube livestream (via kicker) ahead of his move to Galatasaray, Leroy Sané revealed why he decided to move to Istanbul.
Sané has decided not to renew his contract at Bayern Munich and will instead move to the reigning Turkish Super Liga champions. On why he decided to move, Sané said:
“The atmosphere, how much the club wanted me, the fans wanted me—that simply convinced me to say I’m coming here to Galatasaray. I want to achieve a lot with the club.”
kicker reports that the winger will earn more at Galatasaray than the reduced terms that Bayern had offered him during contract extension negotiations. The reported package is said to be around €15m.
The 29-year-old leaves the Bundesliga as an underwhelming transfer. Sané spent five years in Bavaria following his €49m move from Manchester City in 2020. At Bayern, he featured 220 times, scoring 61 goals and assisting 55 times and but was too inconsistent and did not deliver on his promise that he showed with City in the Premier League.
