According to an update on Italian outlet Il Messaggero, Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa are subjects of interest from Napoli. The 2024/25 Serie A winners are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a striker and a versatile winger. So, the out-of-favour Liverpool attackers have emerged as targets for the Partenopei.
The Serie A champions are in contact with Liverpool and the two attackers’ entourage to discuss moves in the summer transfer window. The update has suggested that Nunez and Chiesa are closing in on ending their Anfield horror by joining Napoli in the coming weeks.
Darwin Nunez has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Liverpool from Benfica in July 2022. While the Uruguayan international has shown flashes of brilliance at the Merseyside club, his stock has fallen since Arne Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp. So, the 25-year-old managed only 2,038 minutes of game time across 47 appearances in all competitions in the 2024/25 season.
As for Federico Chiesa, the Italian international hopes to resurrect his stuttering fortunes when he joined Liverpool from Juventus in a bargain deal last summer. However, the Italian international managed only 466 minutes of game time across 14 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in the 2024/25 season. So, it is hardly surprising that Chiesa faces an uncertain future at Anfield.
Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa may reunite at SSC Napoli in the summer transfer window, with the Partenopei holding talks with Liverpool over a possible double deal in the summer transfer window. The report has suggested that the two out-of-favour attackers are closing in on joining the 2024/25 Serie A winners in the summer transfer window.
Nunez has recently emerged as a target for Napoli, and the idea of remaining in Europe instead of moving to Saudi Arabia should be appealing. As for Chiesa, the former Juventus winger has been a target for several Serie A clubs, and reports in March pointed to the Partenopei being in the pole position to land the 27-year-old Italian international.
So, with talks between the parties escalating, it will not be surprising to see Chiesa and Nunez reuniting at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in the 2025/26 season. Nunez, in particular, has no future at Anfield, with Liverpool manager Arne Slot reportedly telling the 25-year-old Uruguayan international that he does not feature in the Dutchman’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
