West Ham United rival Crystal Palace in Tiago Djalo chase

West Ham United will reportedly compete with Crystal Palace to sign 25-year-old Portuguese defender Tiago Djalo from Juventus in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tuttosport, Tiago Djalo is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the Juventus loanee has emerged as a target for the East London club.

The Hammers have submitted an enquiry to discuss a possible summer move for the Amadora-born defender, who has spent the 2024/25 season on loan at FC Porto. However, West Ham United will face stiff competition from Crystal Palace, with the South London club chasing Djalo’s signature for a long time.

Tiago Djalo and his desperate search for stability

Tiago Djalo has struggled for stability since joining Juventus from LOSC Lille in January 2024. The 25-year-old made only one appearance for the Bianconeri in the second half of the 2023/24 season before the Serie A outfit loaned him to FC Porto last summer. However, he could not become an undisputed first-choice centre-back for the Primeira Liga giants.

The Portuguese defender managed only 1,303 minutes of game time across 17 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with two goals. However, Djalo’s stock in the market is high, with Premier League clubs vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window. Crystal Palace and West Ham United are among his prospective suitors this summer.

London calling?

Crystal Palace wanted to sign Tiago Djalo earlier this year before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest is understandable, considering the Eagles are in a spot of bother over Marc Guehi’s long-term future. So, the former LOSC Lille centre-back has emerged as a viable target for Crystal Palace.

As for West Ham United, Jean-Philippe Mateta has failed to make his mark since arriving from OGC Nice last summer. In addition, Konstantinos Mavropanos has blown hot and cold during his spell with the East London outfit. So, West Ham’s search for a new centre-back has taken the club to Djalo.

The Hammers have already submitted an enquiry to discuss a summer move for Djalo. So, it will be interesting to see if West Ham can beat Crystal Palace to the signature of the 25-year-old Crystal Palace defender in the summer transfer window.
