According to AS, Andy Robertson is very much open to joining Atletico Madrid this summer following an interest from the Spanish giants. The Scottish defender now hopes they can agree to terms with Liverpool, as this move might end up suiting all parties concerned.
Andy Robertson might not be the same force he was for the majority of his time at Liverpool. With age, and the changing pace of the game, especially in the Premier League, the Scotland captain has been found wanting far too many times, which has made the club look for an alternative in the left-back position.
Up until the end of the season, and from the time he joined Liverpool, Robertson has been a first-choice left-back. He may not be keen to step down from his key role and play second fiddle to someone like Milos Kerkez, as Liverpool have advanced in talks with Bournemouth for the Hungarian full-back.
Either way, Robertson still has top-level admirers, with Atletico Madrid keen to sign the defender. The Liverpool fan favourite wants to continue playing at the highest level, with the Spanish giants certainly offering him the chance to do that and keep him in a fight for regular titles.
Robertson is seemingly open to the idea of joining Atletico Madrid and will see the prospect of being a key star under Diego Simeone. He certainly hopes that the La Liga giants can agree terms with Liverpool for his transfer, although Simeone’s side are not prepared to pay anything of significance to sign the 31-year-old.
Liverpool are reportedly ready to cash in on Robertson as they make space for Kerkez in the squad. However, the Premier League side are known to ask for significant fees in return for their players, which might be the case with Robertson amid Atletico’s interest.
Atletico do not want to spend big, as they also have Lucas Digne on their list of potential targets. Much like Robertson, the Aston Villa star is also into the final year of his deal, as the duration of the time left on their respective contracts will make it easier for the Spanish giants to agree to a reasonable fee. Robertson’s approval of a move to Spain will give them further encouragement to get a deal done with Liverpool.
