Napoli reach agreement in principle to sign Darwin Nunez

Napoli have reportedly reached an agreement with Liverpool for the signing of Darwin Nunez for a fee of €50 million including add-ons.

According to Gerardo Fasano via Area Napoli, Napoli may have reached an agreement for Darwin Nunez. The Serie A champions are expected to pay €45 million plus €5 million in bonuses for the 26-year-old misfit from Liverpool, with the Uruguayan seen as a key addition to Antonio Conte’s squad.

Napoli have moved with pace and intent in the transfer market to reinforce their squad following a successful season. Antonio Conte steered the team towards the Serie A title in his first season at the club, as he seeks solid additions to their squad ahead of the new season.

The fact that Napoli will return to the Champions League calls for even more quality in the squad, as Kevin De Bruyne has already signed up for the club. They were keen on Federico Chiesa as a new wide option, but recent updates have stated Napoli have preferred PSV Eindhoven’s Noah Lang instead.

Napoli’s priority target this summer appears to be Darwin Nunez, and the club were expected to lodge an offer for the Uruguayan striker. The 26-year-old misfit has no future at Liverpool, who are desperate to find a buyer for the misfiring centre-forward.

Napoli were expected to make a €40 million offer as per reports, as stories also stated that the bid would fall short of Liverpool’s €70 million asking price. The Reds were expecting Nunez to join a Saudi club and he did have interest from the likes of Al-Hilal, but it appears Napoli may be the Uruguayan’s next destination.

Napoli have agreed Darwin Nunez deal?

As per the story by Gerardo Fasano, Napoli have either agreed on a deal with Liverpool or are very close to it, with the final fee being stated as €45 million plus €5 million in add-ons. Should the story come out as true, then Liverpool have reduced their asking price for the 26-year-old misfit.

The report also goes on to state that Napoli will offer the Uruguayan a three-year contract with the option of another year, which may seem a bit odd given the transfer outlay to sign him. Moreover, Nunez will earn a salary of €5.5 million per year, which will make him one of the highest earners at the club.
