Liverpool have been very busy in the ongoing transfer window. They have already made three blockbuster signings Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz. While they have already forked out a fortune, they are expected to continue in a similar fashion.
Arne Slot remains keen on adding another central defender, and they have been working hard to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. According to a report from DaveOCKOP, the Reds are closing in on the signature of the English international.
Guehi hasn’t looked back since joining the Eagles from Chelsea back in 2021. The 24-year-old has not only established himself as one of their mainstays, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best defenders in England.
His performances have attracted a lot of interest, but Palace have managed to keep hold of him so far. However, with him set to enter the final year of his deal, they might have to sanction his departure this summer. Guehi has no intentions of signing a renewal; as a result, this could be the Eagles’ final opportunity to get a decent fee for him.
Liverpool are one of the clubs that are keen on signing him and have been working in the background for some time. They were in talks with the player’s camp earlier in the year to learn everything about a potential deal. Now, they are set to step up negotiations for his signature with Jarell Quansah closing in on a move away.
The 22-year-old is set to join Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth €30 million-plus-bonuses. Liverpool are looking to sign Guehi to replace him in their squad. The English international will certainly be an upgrade at the back for the Reds.
He is an attractive homegrown option for the Reds, and given his experience in the English top flight, he is unlikely to take long to settle at Anfield. With just 12 months remaining on his contract, Liverpool are hoping to secure his services for around £40–45 million.
However, Crystal Palace will push for a higher fee, as they are obligated to pay a percentage of the transfer to Chelsea, who still hold a sell-on clause. While Liverpool are closing in on him, there is still a lot of work to be done. But, they do seem to be in a strong position thanks to their project under Arne Slot.
