According to A Bola via Sport Witness, Arsenal are expected to make a €60 million plus €10 million bid for top striker target Viktor Gyokeres in the coming days. The Gunners are locked in talks with the Swede’s camp to get a deal sorted, but the upcoming offer could see rejection from Sporting CP.
Arsenal fans are eagerly waiting for the club to sign that much-talked-about striker this window. While the Gunners have been locked in on their key targets in Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko for weeks now, there is a feeling that one of those deals is getting closer.
As for Sesko, Arsenal have not yet made an offer, with some reports stating that the Slovenian striker’s wage demands could prove problematic. The reports from Portugal have stated that Gyokeres might be their top target, with further stories claiming that the Swede has informed Sporting CP of his desire to join Arsenal.
There are also claims that Viktor Gyokeres will refuse to join training, with sessions set to resume on July 1st. The Swedish international is concerned about a delay in the move, as the war between him, Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas and the agent has stirred their relationship, and possibly the prospect of a quick deal with Arsenal.
Varandas had reportedly gone back on his ‘Gentleman’s Promise’ with Gyokeres, which assured the striker to leave for a bid of €60 million plus €10 million. The report also notes the possibility of extra contract clauses that reportedly entitle the agent to a 10% commission should Sporting CP reject an offer of €60 million fixed or above, which would then force the club to demand the €100 million release clause in the striker’s contract.
The Portuguese media had reported an unofficial bid from the Gunners in the region of €55 million plus €10 million in bonuses. Now, the Gunners are poised to table a €60 million plus €10 million offer to test Sporting CP’s resolve, which will match the claims coming out of the striker’s camp on the supposed ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’.
However, Varandas had publicly stated that he would not accept a €60 million plus €10 million bid if anything of that sort came about. Hence, it is difficult to see Arsenal making any inroads in the pursuit of the €100 million-rated Viktor Gyokeres, with the kind of offer they have in mind at the moment.
