Liverpool, Tottenham rival Bayern Munich in Castello Lukeba chase

Liverpool and Tottenham are ready to battle Bayern Munich in the race for the signature of RB Leipzig defensive mainstay Castello Lukeba.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, Castello Lukeba could be living his final weeks at RB Leipzig as Tottenham, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are all keen on his signature. The English clubs are willing to rival the Bundesliga giants for the French centre-back.

Lukeba made a name for himself at Olympique Lyon before joining Leipzig in the summer of 2023. The German club brought him in to replace Josko Gvardiol, and he has certainly lived up to the expectations.

The 22-year-old has been a regular feature in their XI since the start. He is already considered a mainstay in the team. While injuries did trouble him last season, he still ended up featuring in 31 matches and did quite an impressive job at the back.

Lukeba was already on the wishlist of multiple top clubs last summer. Leipzig were well aware of the increasing interest in him; as a result, they ended up handing him a new deal last year. His contract now runs until the summer of 2029, and they have him protected by €90 million release clause.

Bayern to face competition from English clubs

Despite the massive clause, Lukeba could still be on the move this summer as Leipzig are willing to negotiate a lower fee amidst interest from Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Liverpool.

The German giants are looking to add more quality and depth to their defence. Bayern tend to snap up the best players from their rival clubs, and they are looking to do it once again with the French youth international.

But they are not the only club who are after his signature. Liverpool and Tottenham are ready to battle them. The Reds might have extended Virgil van Dijk’s contract, but with Jarell Quansah leaving and Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain, they are on the lookout for a top-quality centre-back. Lukeba can certainly help their cause.

As far as Spurs are concerned, they also seek more quality at the back amidst uncertainty around Cristian Romero’s future. Lukeba is open to a move away from Leipzig, and thanks to his agreement with the club, he could leave for a lower fee than his exit clause.
