Crystal Palace uninterested in player-plus-cash deal to sell Marc Guehi to Liverpool

Crystal Palace will reportedly not entertain player-plus-cash bids to sell 24-year-old English international Marc Guehi to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Marc Guehi is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are eager to bolster their defensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a centre-back as they prepare to part ways with Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen. So, the Crystal Palace defender has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

Recent reports have claimed that the Premier League champions may offer Ben Doak in the deal to sign the Englishman from Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window. However, the Eagles do not want to part ways with Guehi in that arrangement, and Liverpool must pay a cash fee to secure his services.

Marc Guehi and his career

Marc Guehi has reached a crossroads in his career after entering the final 12 months of his deal with Crystal Palace. The 24-year-old has come leaps and bounds since joining the South London outfit from Chelsea in July 2021, establishing himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

The English international, who has turned out over 150 times thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with eight goals and four assists, has also become a regular for his national side. Meanwhile, Guehi’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Liverpool among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Will Liverpool sign Guehi?

Liverpool’s interest in Marc Guehi makes sense. The Premier League champions are on the cusp of selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen. In addition, Joe Gomez has struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with the Merseyside club. Furthermore, Ibrahima Konate faces an uncertain future at Anfield after entering the final 12 months of his contract with Liverpool.

So, with Virgil van Dijk on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career, Liverpool must sign at least one top-class centre-back this summer, with Guehi emerging as a viable target. However, Crystal Palace will not entertain a player-plus-cash bid to sell the 24-year-old Englishman to Liverpool.

The Eagles prefer a cash deal to part ways with Guehi, but Liverpool may not be open to meeting their valuation of the English international. So, it will be interesting to see how the negotiations between the two clubs progress in the coming weeks.
