According to Football Insider, Raheem Sterling is a prominent feature on the list of players Chelsea wants to sell this summer. The 30-year-old veteran has no future at Stamford Bridge and is not part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, with his next destination very much unclear at this moment.
Arsenal signed Raheem Sterling on the deadline day of last summer’s window, which seemed like a move that would work out for all parties. At the time he was frozen out of the Chelsea setup by Enzo Maresca alongside a few others, but the loan move to the Gunners barely worked out for him or Mikel Arteta’s side.
Sterling made a modest seven starts in the Premier League and ended the season without a goal to his name. The Gunners have decided against opening talks over a permanent deal, which has brought him back to Chelsea, who are eager to sell him alongside a few other stars.
Noni Madueke is incidentally being linked with Arsenal, as they possibly view him as a good option for their wide attacking areas. As for Sterling, he did have Juventus’ interest earlier in the year, but the Bianconeri are unlikely to revive their chase or open talks for the signing.
Besiktas were keen some days ago, but it remains to be seen whether that is a destination the veteran attacker prefers to make a switch to. Chelsea are clear in their thought about wanting to sell the experienced star, who will take up a huge chunk of their wage bill should he stay put.
Sterling has two years left on his deal, as Chelsea will hope to receive a fee to sell him. The issue of his departure might stem from the lack of interest in the market, as the Blues will hope a club from Saudi Arabia or elsewhere come in with an enquiry. Chelsea have already signed Jamie Gittens as they are now looking to push players like Sterling and Madueke out of the door.
Sterling also has some level of power when it comes to deciding his next move, as he will want to make the best out of his current contract. Hence, the sale might drag until late in the window, as there’s even the possibility of the veteran attacker leaving on another loan elsewhere.
