Sunderland make approach for Djordje Petrovic move

Newly promoted club Sunderland are interested in signing the Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Sunderland have already opened talks with Chelsea, and the goalkeeper will cost £25 million this summer.

Petrovic is unlikely to get regular opportunities at Chelsea, and it would be wise of him to move on and join a club where he will play regularly.

Sunderland will be able to provide him with their opportunity, and it remains to be seen whether they can convince the player to join. They should have the resources to pay £25 million for him.

He is not the only goalkeeper they are looking at, and they have been linked with multiple names in recent weeks.

Sunderland did quite well in the Championship last year, and they will look to establish themselves as Premier League regulars. They will not want to come back down to the championship at the end of the season. They need quality players in order to stay up, and Petrovic could be a useful acquisition.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are prepared to let go of him.

Chelsea could sign a new goalkeeper

Chelsea have been linked with goalkeepers like Mike Maignan in recent weeks. They need to bring in a top-quality goalkeeper this summer, and selling the likes of Petrovic could raise the funds to bring in new signings. Meanwhile, Robert Sanchez has been linked with an exit as well. The Spanish goalkeeper has failed to impress since joining the club from Brighton. His errors have cost his side valuable points last season. Chelsea should look to get rid of their underperformers in the coming weeks.

Petrovic will be looking to play regularly at this stage of his career, and Chelsea will not be able to provide him with that opportunity. He needs to sort out his long-term future quickly so that he can focus on his football once again. The opportunity to join Sunderland might not be the most attractive for him, but it will be an exciting opportunity. If he manages to impress with the Black Cats in the Premier League next season, he might have opportunities to join a bigger club in future.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops. The goalkeeper is entering the peak years of his career, and sitting on the bench and Chelsea would be detrimental to his development.
