According to Caught Offside, Manchester United could be dealt a severe blow in pursuit of Fabian Ruiz. PSG are not considering a sale of the key midfielder and could offer a new deal to retain the player, although the Red Devils might want to rest the player’s resolve.
Fabian Ruiz has had one of the most fabulous 12 months any player can dream of. Fresh from winning the Euros last summer, the Spanish midfielder played an integral role in PSG’s treble-winning season that culminated in the French side winning the Champions League too.
Luis Enrique views the Spaniard as an integral part of his squad and system, with the Spanish coach reportedly laying out the player’s importance to those in charge of transfer matters at PSG. Hence, the club are not thinking about selling the player amid recent interest from Manchester United.
Moreover, PSG are ready to hand the midfielder a new deal to keep hold of his services in Paris. Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr are also thought to be interested, and they certainly can test the waters with an important bid to PSG as well as the player.
However, it’s Manchester United who are the other most interested party in the conversation, with the Red Devils reportedly thinking of making a bid. However, with PSG’s stance of the player not being for sale, it’s difficult to see Ruben Amorim’s side tempting the Spaniard away from PSG, especially after the season he’s had, where he was involved in 17 goals and assists while winning the treble.
Amorim wants to make changes to the system and how Manchester United play without actually changing the formation. He believes a ‘controller’ profile would suit his cause, and hence the name of Ruiz has been mentioned more than once with regards to their transfer targets.
Hakan Calhanoglu is also being linked, which reiterates the need for a controlling midfielder who dictates the tempo of the game. Ruiz is probably a superior option, although PSG might end up shutting the door early on any hopes for the Spaniard to play at Old Trafford next season.
