According to a report from Tutto Mercato Web, Crystal Palace are keen on signing Koni De Winter as they look to add more depth and quality to their backline. While initial talks were underway to bring him to London, the move has stalled, with the player pulling back from negotiations amid the uncertainty caused by the ongoing ‘Textor affair’ that has overwhelmed the Premier League club.
While things did not work out for De Winter at Juventus, the move to Genoa has given him the opportunity to revive himself. He joined them in the summer of 2023 on an initial loan deal, which was made permanent last summer thanks to his impressive performances.
The 23-year-old Belgian centre-back did struggle with injuries last season, but when available, he was one of their standout performers. De Winter’s work has not gone unnoticed, and there are multiple top clubs from across Europe that are keen on signing him.
In England, Tottenham and Crystal Palace are both interested in the Belgian international. The North London club are looking at Koni De Winter as an ideal replacement for Cristian Romero, who has been linked with a move away from the club. Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have both been linked with him. If the Argentine international does end up leaving, Spurs could step up their pursuit of the former Juventus star.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are also very keen on signing Koni De Winter. Amidst uncertainty around Marc Guehi’s future, the youngster is a top target for Oliver Glasner’s team. They have already made concrete moves to bring him to Selhurst Park this summer, but have been overwhelmed by the Textor affair.
The Italian outfit value the 23-year-old at €25 million, and the Eagles did table an offer very close to it around two weeks back. Their offer was worth €20 million plus another €5 as bonuses. While the offer was right on track, the player slowed down talks because it’s still not clear what the future of the London club will be amidst the Textor affair.
Despite having qualified for Europe by winning the FA Cup, their involvement is not certain due to their multi-club involvement. It will be interesting to see if the Eagles revive their interest in Koni De Winter once these issues are resolved.
